Barcelona have had a £55million bid knocked back by Napoli for star player Lorenzo Insigne, according to reports.
The La Liga giants are desperate to bring in a replacement for Neymar after selling the 25-year-old to Paris Saint-Germain for £198m.
According to Italian news outlet Gazette dello Sport, Barca had a bid turned down by the Serie A side just a few days ago.
The left winger would slot seamlessly into the Copa del Rey champions’ starting line-up, as he boasts flair, agility and an eye for goal, everything needed to succeed in Catalonia.
However, since their offer was immediately rebuffed by the Italian club, Ernesto Valverde has stepped up in his efforts to bring Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele to the Nou Camp.
The Liverpool ace is prepared to go on strike to force through a move from Anfield, and is now set to sign for Barca along with the Borussia Dortmund winger.
Dembele was spotted recently loading suitcases into his car as a transfer edges closer to link up with the former Athletic Bilbao boss.
Napoli are believed to have no desire to sell their prized asset this summer, with the Italian international extending his stay at the Stadio San Paolo until 2022 back in April.
Jurgen Klopp has been reported to be interest in acquiring Insigne’s signature should Coutinho leave for Barcelona.
Insigne had his most fruitful campaign in front of goal for Partenopei last season – netting 18 goals in the top-flight and registering nine assists for his team-mates.
The Reds will turn their attention to Schalke’s wonder kid Max Meyer if they fail to get the ex-Pescara man, who has just one year left on his deal with the Bundesliga club.
