Ernesto Valverde is believed to be a keen admirer of the former Rennes man, who moved to the Signal Iduna Park last year on a five-year deal.

The DFB-Pokal champions are believed to value their prized asset at £79million – knowing Barcelona are in desperate need of a wide-man, as well as coming into a large lump of money.

He isn’t the only player on the Copa del Rey winners radar though, as Philippe Coutinho is on the former Athletic Bilbao boss’ shortlist, with Chelsea winger Eden Hazard also a possible target.

While Monaco’s teenage starlet Kylian Mbappe remains an option after the club held shock talks with the 18-year-old.
