Paris Saint-Germain have told Manchester United they want Anthony Martial as part of any deal for Marco Verratti.
Jose Mourinho is lining up a swoop for the24-year-old holding midfielder as his third big-money summer signing.
But he will have to include his French forward Martial in any £60million bid for the star, according to the Daily Mirror.
Barcelona were also interested in the PSG man but have cooled their interest in the Italian.
And that has allowed United chief Ed Woodward to step up his pursuit of Verratti.
However, the French giants have firmly told the Red Devils they will only do business if the former Monaco forward is involved.
Mourinho does not want the Martial to leave and Old Trafford chiefs continue to have dialogue with their opposite numbers in the hope an agreement can be reached.
One thing United hope will swing the deal in their favour is Mino Raiola’s appointment has Verrati’s agent.
Raiola has previously negotiated Paul Pogba’s transfer from Juventus as well as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s arrivals last year.
And the Italian super-agent also helped to bring Romelu Lukaku to United from Everton a fortnight ago.
Mourinho had wanted to sign his former Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic.
The Serb was given the green light to switch to the North West by Blues owner Roman Abramovich, as long as his £50m valuation is met.
United are determined not to be held to ransom over by the Stamford Bridge outfit.
And that has led them to switch their attentions to Verratti.
