Frank De Boer is lining up a shock move for former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin van Persie.
The Dutchman wants to make his compatriot his first signing since being appointed as Crystal Palace boss last week.
Van Persie currently plays for Turkish giants Fenerbahce but is looking for an escape route this summer.
The 33-year-old has already been offered to the likes of Stoke and West Ham but the duo turned down the opportunity to sign the Premier League winner.
Van Persie started 14 league matches last season but Fenerbahce are in the market for a new striker and don’t see the veteran as a regular in their first-team.
And according to the Mirror, Palace are ready to offer him one last swansong in the top flight of English football.
De Boer believes Van Persie will prove an important figure in the dressing room and his experience could prove vital in what could be a tough campaign.
The striker has spent the previous two seasons in Turkey scoring 25 league goals in total.
De Boer has already revealed that he is excited to splash the cash this summer.
Following his appointment he said: “This club can grow further and further
“They spend a lot of money and there is the possibility to do something well with that money.
“I’ve not met the players yet. We will look at one or two signings, but I think it is necessary to see all the players here first.”
