Arsenal would have to shell out a massive £309million if they want to untangle the new deal Marco Asensio is about to sign at Real Madrid.
The 21-year-old is about to put pen to paper on an improved contract with the European champions that would keep him at the club till 2023.
According to Marca, Asensio will sign the new offer “in the coming days” after he reached a verbal agreement.
And it marks the second improvement in terms in less than a year, with Zinedine Zidane keen to keep him at the Bernabeu for the long-term.
Reports in Spain had suggested that Arsenal were interested in bringing Asensio to the Premier League.
But any move appears to be dead in the water with the staggering buy-out clause way out of the Gunners’ reach.
Asensio will be on the same tier of salary as the likes of Lucas Vazquez, Mateo Kovacic and Dani Carvajal.
He scored the fourth goal in the 4-1 Champions League final win over Juventus in Cardiff and has made a positive impact under Zidane.
The former Mallorca attacking midfielder only cost Real £3.5m when he signed from the Baleric club in 2014.
Reports in Spain also suggest Real are favourites to sign Kylian Mbappe from Monaco, with Zidane prepared to loan him back to the Ligue 1 champions so that he can cement a place in France’s World Cup squad.
Mbappe is thought to want to play at least another season in his home country but has had interest from Real, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool.
Florentino Perez is keen to have all players tied down to lucrative contracts and bring in at least one blockbuster signing with presidential elections looming.
