Lyon have sparked a transfer battle between Arsenal and Liverpool – by putting star striker Alexandre Lacazette up for sale.
The France international has plundered a staggering 35 goals in 44 games for his hometown club this season.
Rival managers Arsene Wenger and Jurgen Klopp are longstanding admirers of the 25-year-old, who has recently angered Lyon fans by stating his eagerness to leave.
The Ligue 1 club has now decided to cash in on the 10-cap international.
They reached the Europa League semi-finals before losing to Ajax, and currently lie fourth in the domestic league – 23 points behind champions-elect Monaco.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas said: “We have one player who has our permission to leave, and that is Alexandre Lacazette.
“But that does not mean that he will definitely leave. If the club that he wants to join meets our asking price then he can go.”
Aulas added:”If our players think that Lyon is not big enough for them, we will open the door for them to go. We’ll then sign players who are equally good, but who have the right attitude as well.
“We plan to once again become one of the top ten clubs in Europe.”
Lacazette has been with Lyon since the age of eleven, and has been capped by France at all age levels from Under-16 upwards.
Also a target for Atletico Madrid, he was Ligue 1’s player of the year and top goalscorer in 2014-15.
