Premier League champions Man City take on Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea in a mouthwatering Champions League final in Porto Saturday night.
The Blues’ blushes were spared on the final day of the Premier League season as the Leicester lost to Spurs meaning the west Londoners qualified for Champions League despite losing to Aston Villa.
Meanwhile, fans at the Etihad were able to say farewell to Sergio Aguero after wrapping up the league title early as the Argentine striker scored a brace against Everton… but is their another chapter in his City story remaining?
Man City vs Chelsea
- Timo Werner to score first, Sergio Aguero to score last and Man City to win on penalties – NOW 125/1 (WAS 100/1)
Chelsea have beaten City twice since Tuchel took the reins at Stamford Bridge and the defensive discipline he’s installed should ensure a relatively tight contest.
After Man United were beaten by Villarreal in the Europa League final on spot-kicks, we fancy the continent’s showpiece to go the distance as well.
Timo Werner will be desperate to finish his hot-and-cold first season in Chelsea blue on a high.
The German has missed several gilt-edge chances in the last few months and repeatedly toes the line of offside but his ability to be in the right place to generate goalscoring chances is undeniable.
Werner netted in the last round of the competition against Real Madrid and, despite some criticism, has contributed to 22 goals in all competitions this season.
If Guardiola’s side have a weakness it’s counterattack specialists and the former RB Leipzig forward’s pace makes him one of the most threatening players in Europe on the break.
Aguero is leaving City after a decade of incredible service – which saw him break Wayne Rooney’s record for most goals for a single Premier League club.
The 32-year-old is unlikely to start but the idea of him coming off the bench to score – as did in his debut for the club and against the Toffees recently – is simply too romantic a narrative to shy away from.
Our vision of Werner netting the opener and Aguero rescuing his side from the bench to take it to penalties is admittedly idealistic but 125/1 is a very generous price.
