England were handed a relatively kind group for Euro 2020.
Gareth Southgate’s side will face a repeat of the 2018 World Cup semi-final against Croatia in next summer’s tournament.
Despite being a top seed England have drawn Croatia from Pot 2 but also had a relatively kind pick from Pot 3 in Czech Republic.
But they did avoid France, who were looming large in Pot 2, and Portugal from Pot 3.
If Scotland come through their play-offs in March, they will play England at Wembley.
So Group D in full is England, Croatia, Czech Republic and one of Scotland/Israel/Norway/Serbia.
The Group of Death is Group F, including France, Germany AND Portugal. Oof.
England are joint-favourites to *actually* win the tournament with world champions France.
Bear in mind that all of England’s group games, the semi-final and the final will be held in Wembley, it is going to be some summer.
Can you imagine the scenes across the country after Harry Kane lifts the trophy at Wembley?
Even Southgate has started talking about England as possible European champions, surely testing fate.
But they were in excellent form throughout the qualifiers, making the tournament by scoring the most goals across Europe.
Add to that a semi-final at the World Cup 2018 and the Nations League semi-final and maybe the Three Lions could win their first major tournament since 1966.
It’s coming home again, lads.
