Arsenal handed worst possible draw in Europa League quarter-finals

The Gunners take on Napoli who fell out of the Champions League

Arsenal may need to focus on finishing in the top four to make next season’s Champions League.

They were favourites for the Europa League, but that has changed after they drew Napoli in the quarter finals – arguably the toughest possible draw.

Elsewhere, Chelsea will fancy themselves against Slavia Prague.

The Gunners completed a solid comeback against Rennes last night after nearly throwing the tie away in the first leg.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang remains the best striker in the competition and his double yesterday emphasised that.

However, Napoli only missed out on the Champions League knockout stage because they were in a group with PSG and Liverpool.

Chelsea absolutely thumped Dynamo Kiev 5-0 in Ukraine yesterday and after the furore surrounding Maurizio Sarri’s job earlier in the year, a Europa League triumph in his first season in charge shouldn’t be sniffed at.

The winner of Arsenal’s match will player the winner of Villarreal and Valencia, if Chelsea get through they’ll meet one of Benfica and Frankfurt.

Europa League quarter-final draw in full:

  • Napoli v Arsenal
  • Villarreal v Valencia
  • Benfica v Frankfurt
  • Slavia Prague v Chelsea
