Gareth Southgate will be watching with intrigue.
The Bundesliga will today host what could turn out to be one of the most exciting fixtures of the season.
Borussia Dortmund travel to Hoffenheim in Germany’s top flight, a clash which pits two of England’s brightest young talents against each other.
Jadon Sancho will come face-to-face with his England U19 team-mate and long-term friend, Reiss Nelson.
The 18-year-olds both made the bold move to Germany in a bid to earn more first-team opportunities and speed up their development.
Sancho, having joined Dortmund from Man City in 2017, is now starting to reap the benefits of his brave move out of the Premier League.
He’s been flying this season…
Nelson joined Hoffenheim from Arsenal on a season-long-loan in the summer, after being told by Unai Emery that his first-team chances would be limited.
The tricky-winger is just two games into his Bundesliga stint, already scoring once, coming off the bench to devastating effect on his debut.
Nelson was rewarded for that goal with his first Champions League appearance when Hoffenheim faced Shakhtar Donetsk.
The pair are just two of seven young English stars playing in Germany’s top flight this season.
Sancho and Nelson are however two of the brightest prospects who will be fighting to earn a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s next England squad in October.
Their friendship will be tested today…
There’s no doubt that the pair coming face-to-face today will bring the best out of each other.
Both players will know that a large English contingent will be watching on with intrigue to see how both Sancho and Nelson cope with the added pressure.
English football should take a keen-interest in today’s fixture.
