This man was born in March 2001.
Kylian Mbappe’s transfer from Monaco to PSG was finally made permanent this summer. *Monaco fans weep.*
The Monaco faithful were made to watch on as their former wonderkid topped off his year on loan by picking up a World Cup winners medal.
It’s not all doom and gloom however, as it turns out that Monaco already have a ready-made replacement for the permanently departed Frenchman.
Just four-minutes into his debut, Pietro Pellegri, the club’s latest wonderkid, made Monaco fans forget all about Mbappe.
The 17-year-old entered the fray in the 59th minute, with his side trailing Bordeaux 1-0 away from home.
What does he go and do just three minutes later?
Not a bad way to mark your first game of the season…
Pellegri netted the equaliser for his side, and in the process became the first-ever player born in the 21st century to score in Ligue 1.
How old do you feel right now…
Remarkably, the 17-year-old holds the exact same record in Serie A.
Pellegri was the man who tried his best to gatecrash Franceso Totti’s last ever game for Roma in 2017.
The striker opened the scoring for Genoa against Totti’s side, netting in the 3rd minute when he was aged just 16-years-old.
Pellegri is now the 2nd youngest goalscorer for Monaco in Ligue 1 history, with only Mbappe ahead of him.
The Frenchman netted his first Ligue 1 goal when he was aged just 17-years and two months old, with Pellegri three months his senior at the time of his goal.
If you hadn’t heard of him by now, Pellegri will no doubt become a household name in no time at all.
If the Italian’s start to his Monaco career is anything to go by, he could well emulate the performances of his youthful predecessor, and then some.
Presumably we can expect to see PSG launch a world-record bid to sign the youngster next season?
Until then however, Monaco’s goal scoring burden is in more than capable hands.
