We can’t wait to see him play every week this season.
Ruben Neves shocked everyone when he signed for Wolves last summer, leaving Porto, a club he had captained aged just 20-years-old.
The Portuguese maestro was a revelation in the Championship last season and picked up the league’s Player of the Year award, after helping to guide Wolves back to the top flight.
The standout skill from Neves’ box of tricks last season was his ability to score absolute stunners from the long-distance.
This became somewhat of a speciality for the 21-year-old, and it took Neves just one half of football to produce something similar in the Premier League and open his account.
The midfield maestro rifled a free-kick past Jordan Pickford in Wolves’ opening day 2-2 draw with Everton, scoring yet another goal from outside the box.
The strike from the Wolves man has since produced one of the most unbelievable stats of the season so far.
WhoScored have clearly done their research…
Amazingly, since joining Wolves, Neves has scored more league goals from outside the penalty area than he has had touches inside the box.
Madness.
Neves has so far exclusively scored from outside the box, with all of his six goals last season coming from distance.
Although we know that Neves isn’t a marauding box-to-box player, this stat proves how the 21-year-old truly knows where his strength lies.
Instead of wasting his time making runs into the opposition’s box, the Portuguese star simply waits outside the area for his moment to strike.
Neves lurking outside the box is now one of the most dangerous prospects for Premier League sides and something that defenders must be wary of.
