The Catalans have had three bids rejected by Chelsea for the 29-year-old forward.

However, Tuttosport claim Willian is set to become United’s fourth signing of the summer after an agreement between the Premier League rivals was agreed.

The sum will consist of numerous add-ons and clauses.

But the Italian newspaper also surprisingly report Mourinho wants to bring his former Blues defender Cahill to Old Trafford too.

The 32-year-old is the shock new name to be linked with a move to Old Trafford as the club’s search for a new centre-back continues.

Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Leicester’s Harry Maguire remain the top two targets for United.

Spurs are believed to be holding out for at least £55m for the Belgian, while the Foxes are demanding a figure in excess of £60m for their England World Cup star.

Old Trafford chiefs are struggling to get a deal over the line for either of the internationals, which according to Tuttosport has led to Mourinho mulling over a swoop for the Chelsea veteran.

Cahill played under the Portuguese coach during the Blues’ 2015 title-winning campaign.

The ex-Bolton ace replaced John Terry as captain at Stamford Bridge last season.

But it remains to be seen whether he will figure prominently under new Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri.
