Kylian Mbappe’s dramatic rise is one of the reasons why we love this game.
In the last 18 months, the 19-year-old has gone from a youth prospect at Monaco to a household name all over the world.
He’s already the most expensive teenager on the planet – after Paris Saint-Germain forked out £120 million for him this summer, after making his loan move permanent – and he’s just spearheaded France to their second World Cup triumph.
And now he’s preparing for the new season, it looks like he’s about to pick himself a brand new number to top it all off.
At the moment he wears the No. 29 at PSG, but with Lucas Moura leaving for Spurs in January, the No. 7 has suddenly become available and according to an internal source at the club – Mbappe’s got his eye on it.
No. 7, eh?
It’s no secret that Mbappe grew up idolising Cristiano Ronaldo, and spoke passionately about meeting the Portuguese superstar when he visited Real’s training ground last year.
So it makes sense really, doesn’t it?
Although, in an ideal world though, we imagine he’d quite like that No. 10 shirt at PSG; that’s the number he wears for France after all, and we think it suits him quite well.
But with a certain fella called Neymar firmly well-established at PSG’s No.10, we guess he’ll stick to the No.7.
Not a bad compromise, really.
After all, with Ronaldo surely knocking on the door of retirement over the next few years (he’s 33 now, after all) despite just signing for Juventus, it’s for someone else to be Ronaldo.
And judging on his immense potential at such a young age, we wouldn’t it past Mbappe to emulate his great hero.
Taking on his famous number is a good start, we think.
