The Maurizio Sarri Effect™
Chelsea are set to celebrate the appointment of the former Napoli coach by signing World Cup star Aleksandr Golovin.
Stamford Bridge chiefs have already held talks with the Italian gaffer about him succeeding Antonio Conte with the decision expected to be formally announced within a week.
According to the Sun, Sarri’s first signing may well be Russia’s highly-rated midfielder, Golovin.
The CSKA Moscow star has been tipped for a move abroad after impressing in the group stages of the World Cup.
The 22-year-old inspired the hosts to an emphatic 5-0 win in the tournament’s opener and continued to impress as Russia qualified for the round of 16.
Juventus are long-time admirers of Golovin but Chelsea are confident of luring him to London once Sarri is officially announced.
Many pundits expected Russia to flop at their own tournament but Golovin’s playmaking exhibitions have made the hosts something of a surprise package.
His technical skills and testing set-pieces have been a key feature of Russia’s tactics so far.
There are rumours that Chelsea may send Golovin out on loan straight away although a strong performance against Spain in the round of 16 may convince the club he is worthy of first-team action come August.
