Everything has been leading up to this moment.
Mo Salah’s incredible season could be topped off by stealing Cristiano Ronaldo’s crown as the king of the Champions League in Kiev on Saturday.
He won’t catch Ronny’s goal tally but he could take his chance to outshine him in the biggest game of the season.
Reigning double Eruopean champion Ronaldo has made the competition his own in the past two years with incredible performances in the latter stages to give Real Madrid to trophy it craves so much.
But Salah, the new kid on the block, has been such a phenomenon this season that the game in Kiev could be all about the Egyptian if he is at his best.
Not only has Liverpool’s star scored 10 goals in the competition – five behind Ronaldo – but he has put in some rip-roaring displays as Liverpool’s attacking trident tore defences apart.
Remember that spell against Porto in the last-16? Salah inspired the Reds to a five goal victory in Portugal.
Then when Roma were exerting some pressure against Liverpool in the opening stages at Anfield in the semi-final, Salah suddenly turned the switch and the next hour was all about what the Egyptian could do on the right wing.
And it was completely devastating.
Salah scored the two opening goals and setup another two to give Liverpool a five goal lead. In a semi-final. In the Champions League.
While Ronaldo has turned into the ultimate finisher in Europe this season he rarely implements his will on games as a whole as he did a few years ago, Salah has an ability to single-handedly destroy opponents in a blitz of trickery, pace and imagination.
It’s brilliant to watch.
The Champions League final offers an opportunity for Salah to ensure this incredible season of his will never be forgotten, not just in Liverpool around the world.
Now would be the perfect time for Jurgen Klopp’s side to recreate some of the jaw-dropping explosive attacking moments that we have seen all season.
The combination of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Salah has left better defences than Real Madrid’s looking to their bench wondering where it all went wrong this season.
Salah has been at the heart of everything good at Anfield this year and you won’t find many people who don’t want one of the nicest men in football to succeed against Los Blancos.
The markets are favouring Salah having a big impact on this game with Sun Bets offering 4/1 on Salah scoring, getting and assist and Liverpool winning.
But, it’s not just Salah Madrid have to worry about – Firmino, Mane and Salah all to score OR assist is a juicy 8/1 with Sun Bets.
