It’s their biggest game of the season.
Facing up against Europe’s stingiest defenders Atletico Madrid in the Europa League final.
But you didn’t think France’s most flair team wouldn’t have a little trick up their sleeve, did you?
Well, they surprised/stunned nearly everyone in the stadium and watching at home with the way they got the match underway.
Atletico won the toss and captain Gabi decided to play with hs supporters behind him in the first half, giving Marseille the kick.
Instead of doing what normal teams do, touching the ball back and knocking it around to get an early feel, they went very unorthodox.
The Marseille ‘placekicker’ stepped and absolutely hoofed the ball into touch as far down the pitch as he could.
It was as if he was trying to secure early territory in the Atletico half just like you would see in American football or rugby.
It was only just the strangest thing we had seen in the build up to the game after being treated by UEFA to France’s best techno DJs Ofenbach.
Not only did the French party boys rock the stadium with some awful tectonic electronic music, they continually asked everyone if they were ‘there to party’ and then well outstayed their welcome.
Meaning the players had to wait in the tunnel listening to the music for a few minutes before a huge match.
To be fair, everyone was instantly distracted by Marseille’s weird kick-off…
