Watford have failed in an attempt to sign Spanish goal machine Fran Sol.
The 26-year-old striker has hit 20 in 36 games this season for his Dutch club Willem II.
Hornets’ boss Javi Gracia hoped to add his compatriot to his squad for next season and invited Sol to watch them against Crystal Palace.
But following the 0-0 draw on April 21 former Real Madrid trainee Sol has told Watford: “Thanks – but no thanks.”
The striker is under contract with Tilburg-based Willem II until 2019, with the option for a further season.
Madrid-born Sol said: “Watford invited me to watch their game against Crystal Palace as an initial contact.
“They wanted to get to know me as a person, and to show me the club.
“I made no secret on social media of the fact I was over there. It is widely reported if you are seen somewhere in England.
“But it was nothing special. I am looking towards the next step in my career – but it certainly won’t be Watford.
“My next move will be to a winning team where I get a lot of chances to score goals.
