After teasing us for weeks about his possible England eligibility, Leon Bailey may be coming over here to rub his talent in our faces.
Man City are plotting a summer move for the Bayer Leverkusen winger, according to reports.
The 20-year-old has scored 12 goals and provided six assists for this season, and is regarded as one of the Bundesliga’s most entertaining talents.
Goal are reporting that Bailey is being considered as Pep Guardiola primary attacking recruit.
However, in the unlikely event Kylian Mbappe becomes available, the Frenchman would become their top target.
Bailey joined Leverkusen from Genk in January 2017 and has improved significantly this season.
A rapid winger, there are reports of him running 100m in under 11 seconds.
Bailey’s dribbling, crossing, set-pieces and ever-improving composure in front goal made him arguably the best Bundesliga player for the first half of the season.
Having played just one game for Jamaica U23s, Belgium, Germany and even England were all said to be interested in securing his services for the future.
However, despite Bailey’s vague replies in interviews, it seems he is not eligible for the Three Lions.
While his attacking attributes are present in abundance, Bailey offers virtually nothing in defence.
Guardiola instructs his forwards to press the opposition, with Gabriel Jesus exhibiting excellent tactical discipline and work rate when City are not in possession.
Being only 20-years-old, Bailey has time to learn and improve the defensive side of his game and as it stands he has the potential to be a world-class player.
It’s thought a transfer fee in the region of £45million would persuade Leverkusen to sell their prize asset.
City missed out on Alexis Sanchez and Riyad Mahrez in the last two transfer windows and will be determined to bolster their squad in the summer.
Leicester winger Mahrez could again come into consideration, while Monaco’s Thomas Lemar is another option.
Guardiola also wants cover for 32-year-old Fernandinho, with Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred high on his shopping list.
Napoli’s Jorginho and Julian Weigl of Borussia Dortmund are also said to be in consideration.
