CHELSEA will reportedly battle both Manchester United and Man City for Sao Paulo wonderkid Eder Militao this summer.
The 20-year-old is a key target for Pep Guardiola as he seeks a replacement for Fernandinho, but the Blues hope to pip the Citizens to the signing.
According to the Mirror, Chelsea are planning an overhaul of their side at the end of the season, and have identified the Brazilian youth international as a potential recruit.
Valued at £20million, Militao’s versatility is believed to be a key factor why the current Premier League holders are desperate for his signature.
Often deployed as defensive midfielder by boss Diego Aguirre, he can also operate as a centre-back, as well as a right-back.
Militao – who featured twice for Brazil’s U-17 side in 2015 – could replace the likes of Danny Drinkwater, Tiemoue Bakayoko or David Luiz, who have all flattered to deceive at Stamford Bridge this season.
In addition to both City and the Red Devils, Borussia Dortmund and Porto are also reported to be in the race to nab him.
Chipping in with two goals in 22 games for Sao Paulo in his breakthrough campaign last season, Militao is regarded as one of Brazil’s brightest prospects.
In wake of Liverpool exposing frailties in the City side during the Champions League quarter-final, Guardiola has made a defensive midfielder a top priority.
The Carabao Cup holders have also been linked with moves for Shakhtar Donestk ace Fred, Napoli’s Jorgiho and Dortmund’s Julian Weigl.
