MANCHESTER UNITED are planning a summer swoop for Juventus star Alex Sandro and will use Matteo Darmian as makeweight, according to reports.
Jose Mourinho has been monitoring the 27-year-old who starred in the Italians’ impressive Champions League win at Wembley against Tottenham, and United are keen to land him, according to the Mirror.
Darmian is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford three years after his move to England from Torino.
The Italian international returning to Turin could help smooth the path for Sandro to finally move to the Premier League.
Sandro joined Juventus for £22million from Porto in 2015 and was close to joining Chelsea last summer.
The United boss is after a top quality left-back with the future of Luke Shaw uncertain.
The England defender is behind Ashley Young in the Old Trafford pecking order and could be offloaded in the summer.
Brazilian international Sandro is exactly what Mourinho wants in a defender – strong, quick and dependable.
He would cost around £70m but that won’t bother United, with Mourinho expected to spend big again to bridge the gap with Manchester City next season.
The South American earns around £145,000-a-week and United would have to offer more to get the deal done.
