Jason Derulo has launched the official song for the World Cup – and it is set to be a global smash
American pop star Derulo was signed up by Russia 2018 sponsors Coca-Cola to front the anthem for the tournament which takes place this summer.
And the 28-year-old looks to have come up with the goods with a tune that will be played around the globe over the coming months.
Derulo launched his song “Colors” on his own YouTube page today – a week before it is released on sale across the world.
The song will be officially released on March 16, and Derulo has been lined up to belt it out at the World Cup opening ceremony in Moscow in June.
The early indications are that he has produced a tune that will prove popular internationally by sticking to the principles that have made him a platinum-selling pop star.
And in doing so it has seen him avoid the prospect of following in the footsteps of Ricky Martin, whose La Copa de la Vida for France 1998 was a major flop.
Anastacia’s effort Boom was greeted with mixed reviews when she penned the track from Japan and Korea 2002.
And Germany went for the more traditional route in 2006 when their anthem was recorded by classical group Il Divo.
Latino superstar Shakira came up with one of the best efforts in recent years with Waka Waka, the official song of Africa 2010.
But four years ago Pitbull’s song We Are One proved a flop in the charts despite his popularity in Brazil.

Jason Derulo continues his knack for writing catchy, slick pop music with his new World Cup anthem Colors.
Tasked with the tough job of making a track that appeals to sports fans from every corner of the globe, Derulo opts for the safe theme of unity and oneness which is bound to please Fifa chiefs.
While the well-meaning lyrics, full of imagery of flag waving and pride in your team’s colors, tend to fall on the cheesy side, there’s no denying the chorus’s catchy hook.
The dancehall beat will likely transcend the beautiful game and get those who don’t have a clue about football on their feet in clubs.
However, diehard middle-aged Englishmen watching the action down their local boozers might be less impressed.
Put simply, Skinner and Baddiel’s Three Lions is safe for now, but, overall, Jason (and Fifa) are on to a winner.
