Sergio Aguero is responsible for all of David Luiz’s injury woes

The South American rivalry is so strong that Aguero's challenge from 2016 permanently injured the Brazilian

No one wants to miss out on a World Cup.

Especially if your last appearance at football’s greatest tournament was a 7-1 thrashing in front of your own fans at your national stadium.

Unfortunately for David Luiz that’s exactly what could happen after a persistent injury puts him on the sidelines for another month.

And to make matters worse, it is all the fault of Sergio Aguero, who represents one of Brazil’s biggest rivals in Argentina.

The Evening Standard is reporting that Chelsea have been dealt a major blow as Luiz will have to undergo treatment on knee and ankle injuries which will keep him out of the team for a month.

With Gary Cahill falling down the pecking order and Andreas Christensen still requiring some time to fulfil his potential, Antonio Conte would love to be able to call on Luiz’s services.

The story reports that Luiz now faces a real battle to get fit in time for the end of the season and in order to play for Brazil in Russia this summer.

He has been troubled by the niggle ever since the Aguero’s horror tackle back in 2016.

Chelsea were winning 3-1 at the Etihad on their way to the title when Aguero completely lost his rag and flew in on the Brazilian, drawing a 90th-minute red card as the game descended into chaos.

Well that tackle, *slightly above* Luiz’s ankle has left him suffering from long term knee problems and has left Chelsea without one of their most experienced defenders.

Luiz has started just four games since the start of November and the Standard is reporting that the defender-cum-playmaker has travelled to Barcelona to see a specialist on more than one occasion.

With Christensen’s confidence low and Cahill warming up the bench, Luiz’s injury comes at a bad time for Conte.

Let’s hope for Chelsea and Brazil he can return before the season’s over.

Germany’s players will be keeping their fingers crossed.
