Oxford, 19, signed up for second spell with the German side in January after a brief return to the Hammers to be assessed by new boss David Moyes.
But the Scot opted for more experienced options – leaving Oxford unsure over his future at the club.
He initially struggled for game time in the Bundesliga but started last Sunday’s derby defeat to Borussia Dortmund.
And Atletico boss Diego Simeone could make a tilt for the England Under-20s defender if he impresses in the second half of the campaign.

The Londoner was the subject of a £10million permanent bid from Monchengladbach last month.
That was rebuffed buy the Hammers who value Oxford at closer to £12m.
RB Leipzig are also keen – and the defender’s willingness to leave the comfort zone of the Premier League has alerted Europe’s big boys.
But, it is claimed, Spain could well be Oxford’s preferred destination should he quit East London.
