Arsene Wenger sends scouts to watch Napoli duo ahead of potential double deal

Gunners continue to look at options for rebuilding their squad at the end of the season by keeping close eye on Serie A duo

ARSENAL are continuing their search for big signings in the summer by tracking Napoli duo Kalidou Koulibaly and Lorenzo Insigne.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been left with no option but to plan a major overhaul of his squad during the close season with his current side so far off the pace in the Premier League.

According to Calcio Mercato Arsenal had representatives in the crowd on Thursday to watch the Serie A leaders in action against RB Leipzig.

The Italian club have struggled in European action this season having crashed out of the Champions League in the group stages.

And their problems continued in the Europa League as they crashed to a 3-1 home defeat to the German club in the first leg.

But Gunners scouts are understood to have been in position in Rome to check up on the performances of Koulibaly and Insigne.

One area where Arsenal seem definite to strengthen is in defence as Wenger has again seen too many sloppy goals cost his side dearly this season.

Koulibaly is regarded as one of the strongest central defenders in Europe after impressing during his four years in Naples.

The club value him at a minimum of £50million – a fee which has seen them keep hold of the 26-year-old Senegal star in the past despite interest from other top clubs, including Chelsea.

He has been at the heart of the Napoli defence which has helped the side to the top of Serie A, just one point ahead of Juventus.

At the other end of the pitch, Insigne has been one of the creative forces behind his club’s bid to wrestle the title away from Juve.

And the Gunners are clearly looking to bring more attacking options into the squad with Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud all departing last month.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan joined the club.
