Just when everybody thought Cristiano Ronaldo was down and out, he proves yet again he’s the man for the big occasion.
Ronaldo became the first player in Champions League history to reach 100 goals in the competition with a double as Real Madrid beat PSG 3-1 in their last 16 first leg.
Real had to rally from 1-0 down after Adrien Rabiot’s opener, but the Portuguese great and Marcelo gave them a handy advantage going into the return leg in France.
But it was Ronaldo’s first goal – from the penalty spot – that has caused a bit of fuss online.
After Toni Kroos was fouled by Giovani Lo Celso right before half time, Ronaldo stepped up to emphatically equalise from 12 yards.
Initially nothing seemed peculiar about the strike, but on closer inspection his technique is quite unique.
Ronaldo’s left foot appears to plant next to the spot, causing the ball to pop and allow him to get a cleaner strike.
This might seem fairly revolutionary, but Rio Ferdinand claimed in the BT Sport studio afterwards that it was nothing new from his former Manchester United team-mate.
