There was a remarkable difference in price between PSG’s midfield & attack against Real Madrid

PSG lined up against Real Madrid with a midfield costing around £20million, whereas the attack cost £422mil

Life’s been good at PSG since the money came in.

In buying Neymar they proved that no release clause is safe, something Champions League opponents Real Madrid know only too well.

So it was only natural that when PSG and Real Madrid met at the Bernabeu money was on the agenda.

But it wasn’t just PSG’s big-spending that caught the eye. It was also their, err…, eye for a bargain.

PSG’s starting midfield trio of Marco Verratti, Giovani Lo Celso and Adrien Rabiot cost a grand total of around £22million to put together.

The Parisians spent in the region of £12mil to take Verratti from Italian outfit Pescara in 2012.

Lo Celso is a relatively new arrival at the Parc des Princes, costing PSG roughly £10m from Argentinian side Rosario.

Rabiot was the cheapest of the lot, graduating through PSG’s underrated academy.

Now let’s compare those figures to PSG’s attack.

Coming in ‘cheapest’ is Edinson Cavani, who commanded a fee of £65m when he left Napoli in 2013.

Next is France football’s golden child Kylian Mbappe, who’s technically on loan from Monaco but will cost £135m when he completes a permanent transfer next summer.

Finally, of course, there’s the £222m man Neymar.

So while PSG are throwing money around for fun they’re also being quite thrifty.

Who’d have thought it?
