Never underestimate Manchester City’s spending power.
Because just like that they’re prepared to splash £120m on a couple of players – and more.
Just hours after wrapping up a club-record deal to sign Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao, the runaway Premier League leaders have made an audacious bid…
…for Riyad Mahrez.
Sane is likely to miss the next six to seven weeks after sustaining ankle ligament damage from a sickening challenge by Cardiff’s Joe Bennett at the weekend.
And City aren’t resting on their laurels, particularly considering Sane’s stellar form this season and the gap he now vacates.
It is reported that City have made an initial £60m approach for Mahrez, but Leicester value him at much higher than that.
Mahrez has been back in the same groove this season as the campaign he won the PFA Player of the Year award, registering eight goals and seven assists in the Premier League.
Both Liverpool and Arsenal have coveted the Algerian playmaker but City’s interest is more concrete.
It is believed the Foxes value their most prized asset at £90m, particularly after the inflated figures forked out for Philippe Coutinho and Virgil van Dijk in this transfer window.
