It seems Manchester City are a little sore from missing out on Alexis Sanchez this month.
The Premier League leaders were once favourites to sigh the Chilean from Arsenal, but were gazumped by bitter rivals United, who simply managed to offer the forward more money.
And City boss Pep Guardiola is determined not to be out-done by Jose Mourinho again, and wants to splash the cash this summer on Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, according to the Mirror.
The mega-rich side will reportedly offer a British record £150million for the Belgian, after identifying him as their No 1 summer transfer target this summer.
Speaking in the aftermath Sanchez’s transfer to United last week, Guardiola admitted the huge makeover of his squad over the summer – which saw him saw strengthen his defence with the likes of Kyle Walker, Benjamin Mendy, Danilo and Ederson – meant he was unable to compete in the market for the world’s best players.
He said: “It’s true when the people of Abu Dhabi took over the team, in that period they spent a lot.
“But our most expensive player is Kevin De Bruyne and when you see now the reality, a lot of clubs spend much more for one or two players.
“We spent the same amount for four, five or six players.
“In the end what we spent in the summer is quite similar to United, but they bought two or three players and we bought six or seven.”
But it looks like than stance will change this summer when they pursue Hazard.
However, a lot will depend on whether they can persuade Chelsea to let their star man leave for a direct rival.
What’s more, Real Madrid have been sniffing around the 27-year-old in recent seasons, and will likely be the Belgian’s preferred choice.
