In 2017 MLS players voted Mix Diskerud the ‘most overrated player in the league’ as part of an anonymous ESPN poll.
One year on and the midfielder has signed for Man City.

Posts on Umbro’s Twitter and Instagram feeds claimed that Diskerud would ‘continue his footballing development with a four-and-a-half year Man City contract’.
Diskerud, speaking via Umbro’s Twitter feed, said: “This is a great opportunity for me.
“I’m very eager to be a part of people and organizations that constantly strive to bring our sport, values and gear to new levels.
“Man City is probably the best football club in the world, and Umbro design the best cleats, and not only for me. Both are historic brands looking to shape the future of our sport.”
The 27-year-old was loaned from New York City FC, who are Man City’s sister club, to Swedish side IFK Goteborg last March.
He’s been capped 38 times by the USA but has failed to impress in his two seasons with New York City in which he was playing under former City midfielder Patrick Vieira.
So he’s hardly a player that would improve one of world football’s most stacked squads.
One theory is that he’s been signed only to be loaned out.
That was the case with Aaron Mooy, who spent two years at Melbourne City before signing for City in 2016 and then immediately being loaned out to Huddersfield.
Another theory is that he’s been signed in some form of corporate role, hence why Umbro announced the deal not City.
One thing is for certain though, everyone is confused.
Are you reading this Mix? We could really do with a concrete explanation as to what is going on.
Pep Guardiola is a maverick but even he wouldn’t sign someone who couldn’t get in Goteborg’s first-team to rival Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva.
Then again, this is 2018. Anything is possible.
