Few sights on a football pitch were as breathtaking as Adriano crashing the ball into the top corner with his left foot.
Unfortunately off-field events meant Adriano never lived up to his full potential, despite flashes of pure genius.
It’s a mark of the man that Adriano scored 27 goals in 48 caps for Brazil and won four consecutive Serie A titles but is still considered something of a disappointment.
Adriano was last seen turning out for Miami United in the fourth tier of American football.
Having not played since 2016 it was expected that we’d seen the last of Adriano on a football pitch.
However encouraging reports from Brazil hint at a potential return for the 35-year-old.
Adriano is following a fitness regime set out by former club Flamengo, according to O Globo.
Adriano’s most prolific season came in a Flamengo shirt, when he scored 19 goals during their 2009 campaign.
He’s training at the club’s facilities and alongside other players and although contract talks haven’t taken place yet there could be scope for discussions further down the line.
It won’t be too long before he’s being linked with Chelsea.
