We all know the feeling.
Your best players are spotted at an opposition ground and everyone suspects it means an imminent transfer.
Riyad Mahrez and Islam Slimani were both spotted at the Emirates last night as Arsenal booked their place in the Carabao Cup final after beating Chelsea.
Mahrez has been subject to heavy speculation that he will leave the King Power this month and Puel even went as far as slapping a £100million price tag on his prized possession.
Arsenal are always in the market for a skillful attacking midfielder that doesn’t always have the biggest impact in games and can be known to disappear for parts of the season.
It’s not like they already have any of them and would desperately benefit from a quality central midfielder instead.
But who are we to question Arsene Wenger?
Obviously when the pictures emerged Twitter immediately blew up with claims it meant Mahrez was definitely leaving the Foxes for Arsenal.
Well during Claude Puel’s press conference today he told everyone they were at Arsenal’s stadium on a scouting mission for their manager.
“I think at the end of January I will be happy and this question will be finished,” he said.
“I ask him [Mahrez] and Slim to look and watch the game against Chelsea to make a report. They were good scouts.
“There is nothing about Mahrez or Slim or any players. There are no moves out of the squad and we will see at the end of the month.”
One small inconsistency in Puel’s story is that Leicester aren’t actually playing Arsenal until mid-March.
Forget the small details though did anyone see this kind of humour coming from Puel?
We honestly didn’t know the man could make a joke until we heard this.
So just to be clear, Mahrez was on a scouting mission and there is no chance Arsenal will be signing him either in January or the summer.
No chance whatsoever.
