Arsene Wenger says he cannot understand why anyone would want to leave Arsenal.
Unfortunately when you look at the trophy cabinets of big stars who left the Gunners in their prime such as Thierry Henry, Cesc Fabregas, Robin van Persie or even Gael Clichy, they all got a lot more full in their post-Arsenal careers.
Alexis Sanchez is the latest key man to join the ranks of players leaving Arsenal to actually win something and in a leaving message he said he left the club for the same reason as Henry after having a conversation with the French legend.
There was widespread fallout from Arsenal fans that felt Henry was essentially snaking their beloved club by telling their best player to go to United so he can actually feel what it’s like to win a big trophy in England.
Yes Gooners, I know you’ve won the FA Cup a few times.
Arsenal fans view Henry as a god amongst men after his 255 goals for the club and now he has had to deny that he had been working against the club.
He tweeted today to say that he had no part in Sanchez’s decision.
“I know I don’t need to explain this to the majority of Arsenal fans but contrary to speculation at no time did I tell Alexis Sanchez to leave Arsenal,” Henry typed out.
“I had no idea he was going to sign for Man Utd until I saw it on the news like the rest of you.”
In fairness Sanchez has also taken to Twitter to explain that obviously he didn’t mean Henry told him to leave the Emirates and that the Frenchman loves the club and everyone shoudl forget about it.
Hmm, all this denial makes me think they are trying to cover something up.
“I want to clarify that Henry never told me to leave the club, it was a personal decision,” Sanchez told the interweb.
“He LOVES the club and someday it would be nice to see him as the Arsenal coach because he loves the club.”
OK so far we can be sure Henry loves the club.
But what do you make of it Arsenal – is Sanchez still a snake?
