Rio Ferdinand is Manchester United through and through.
But the great Red Devils centre-back may risk the wrath of some of his loyal supporters after comments made about Alexis Sanchez on BT Sport on Saturday night.
Sanchez has been heavily linked with both United and arch rivals City in the last week with the Chilean’s contract at Arsenal expiring in the summer.
City were favourites but reportedly cooled their interest over his financial demands, allowing United to steal a march and take the initiative.
But Ferdinand controversially believes a move to City is a more attractive and beneficial option for the 29-year-old.
“I am going to be honest, if he has an option to go from Arsenal to go to Manchester City or Manchester United, as a footballer who wanted to win trophies and would judge myself based on trophies being won, at the moment Man City looks like the place to go for him,” he said.
“They are top of the league, they are going to win the league this season, they are in the Champions League, they are looking like they will be in the final for the League Cup, the FA Cup as well potentially.
“So he has got more opportunities to win trophies there.”
Sanchez himself also prefers a move to the Etihad, eyeing a reunion with Pep Guardiola.
But Old Trafford now seems like his most likely destination as Jose Mourinho looks to make a statement of intent over their great rivals.
