Jose Mourinho was never going to lie down and make it easy for Man City.
Reports suggest Man United have made contact with Arsenal wantaway Alexis Sanchez over a shock move.
Fans have been expecting the 29-year-old Chilean to reunite with Pep Guardiola, whether that be this month, or next summer when his contract expires.
But according to Sky Sports, United have entered the race for the Gunners forward.
It is being reported that out-of-favour Old Trafford playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been offered as part of the deal as Mourinho looks to strengthen his attacking options.
Sanchez has his heart set on a move to champions elect City and it may be that United’s interest succeeds only in inflating the transfer fee, if they move were to happen in January.
The Premier League leaders are reluctant to meet Arsenal’s £35million asking price but hope to find a compromise.
Sanchez signed for Arsenal in 2014 from Guardiola’s beloved Barca for £35m — he has scored 80 goals in 165 games for the Gunners.
