Neymar explains the reason behind his shoe-balancing celebration

Many fans thought the PSG star's actions were to do with promoting Nike

Nike must have been licking their lips last night.

PSG progressed to the semi-finals of the French Cup on Wednesday evening thanks in part to a Neymar penalty.

The Brazilian superstar converted a spot-kick in the 53rd minute to open the scoring against Amiens and unveiled a new celebration in the aftermath.

The 25-year-old balanced one of his boots on his head, to the delight of the photographers present.

Some of the more cynical fans out there believed it was a pre-planned PR stunt for Nike.

Neymar is one of the sports manufacturer’s top ambassadors and the iconic tick was given plenty of exposure perched on top of the world’s most expensive player.

He has previous in this department as well.

During his time at Barcelona, Neymar would frequently change his boots mid-game, attracting the television cameras’ gaze to his collection of Nike wheels.

Evntually, fans stopped buying the excuse that he was particular with his footwear and concluded it was some sort of arrangement with his main sponsor.

However, the man himself has revealed that his newest celebration was a tribute to his friend, Joao Celso Moraes, whose party trick is to balance drinks on his head.

A far more wholesome explanation, though Nike won’t be complaining about the extra advertising.

PSG were 2-0 winners on the night with Adrien Rabiot doubling the lead 12 minutes from time.

Neymar’s goal was his 20th in all competitions this campaign — the same tally he finished last season with.
