There’s always a bigger fish…
David Attenborough will be loving Philippe Coutinho’s transfer to Barcelona as it’s established a clear food chain of European football.
Down at the bottom are Celtic, who are preyed upon by Southampton, who, in turn, are preyed upon by Liverpool, who are the prey of choice for top dogs Barcelona.
While this chain of unofficial feeder clubs is rather pleasing for the neutrals, it can be rather frustrating for fans of the clubs involved.
Particularly for Southampton who have been feasted upon by Liverpool with Virgil van Dijk joining Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne, Dejan Lovren, Ricky Lambert and Sadio Mane in trading the south coast for Merseyside in recent times.
So then, few would have blamed Saints legend Matt Le Tissier for relishing in Liverpool’s misery at having a star player plucked away by a familiar buyer.
Because the internet is a toxic cesspit, many Liverpool fans refused to see the funny side and levelled misspelled, ill-judged insults at a man who Xavi counts as one of his heroes.
Our personal favourite was this chap, who was so triggered he inadvertently insulted his own club…
Many mocked Le Tissier for turning down bigger clubs during his career and remaining loyal to Southampton, which is the exact thing they’re angry at Coutinho for not doing.
Never underestimate the internet’s ability to toss aside logic in favour nonsensical rage comments.
We can’t wait to log on to Twitter in a few days when Liverpool unveil Dusan Tadic and Nathan Redmond…
