Leroy Sane keeps full-backs awake at night.
The Man City winger has been superb in the last year with few, if any, defenders being able to cope with the German’s pace and dribbling.
Poor Kieran Trippier is probably still attending therapy sessions after what he experience at the Etihad earlier this month.
However, for the first time in a long time, Sane has met his match.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah put in a titanic performance at right-back for Crystal Palace against Man City at Selhurst Park.
The Dutch full-back, who is on loan at the Eagles from Man United, nullified the threat of Sane, exhibiting exceptional positioning and timing of a tackle.
Fosu-Mensah’s display was so impressive that Pep Guardiola directed Sane to swap flanks with Bernardo Silva to see if the Portuguese midfielder could exploit a weakness in the 19-year-old’s game.
But the former Monaco maestro was also found wanting.
Fosu-Mensah’s dominance induced a couple of rare moments of frustration from Sane.
The 21-year-old winger was booked for kicking the ball away after yet another attack came to nothing.
He was argued with Kevin De Bruyne after a misunderstanding which saw the Belgian pass the ball out of play instead of to his team-mate’s feet.
Needless to say, fans of all clubs (particularly United) were thoroughly impressed with what they had seen from Fosu-Mensah…
We’re big fans of that last one — well played, Karl.
Surely Jose Mourinho will at least consider recalling the Dutchman in January?
If for nothing else than United’s trip to the Etihad in April.
Although one suspects the league may already be wrapped up by that stage…
