It’s been a good week for Marek Hamsik.
The mohawked midfielder finally surpassed Napoli-legend Diego Maradona’s long-standing goalscoring record with the club last week, when he hit the match-winning goal against Sampdoria.
So, of course, the Slovakian was naturally on-target again in last night’s clash against Crotone.
Hamsik notched his 117th goal for the club in their 1-0 win – which was fitting, considering the Serie A leaders were wearing special shirts to recognise the player’s achievement.
As you can see below, one of the sleeves featured a picture of Hamsik and his number, 17, with ‘All time top scorer’ written underneath.
The 30-year-old also revealed after the game that Maradona gave him a special gift – but was coy on the details.
Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, he said: “Surpassing Maradona’s record was an achievement, but now what counts more is to win the game and get all three points for the team.
“Maradona gave me a gift – I can’t tell you what it was!”
Meanwhile, Napoli’s win ensures Maurizio Sarri’s free-flowing side are top of the table – four points ahead of champions Juventus – at the midway stage of the season, making them the Campioni d’Inverno – Winter Champions.
