Manuel Pellegrini confirmed that most of his players had gorged on Christmas Day delights despite their early kick-off with Spurs on Boxing Day

Southampton’s defenders have admitted to indulging in Christmas Day excesses after being thrashed 5-2 by Spurs on Boxing Day.

Maya Yoshida, Jack Stephens, Wesley Hoedt and Matt Targett are all said to have chugged two bottles of Bailey’s each before falling asleep in front of the Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas special.

The Saints backline also polished off a wheel of cheese each just half an hour after finishing an obnoxiously big Christmas dinner.

Unofficial club spokesman, Lee Satchell, said: “There’s no point covering it up, it was obvious for all to see.

“The lads enjoyed a traditional English Christmas, consuming 14,000 calories each.

“The only food left in the house was the Brussels sprouts, they didn’t touch them, which is fair enough really.

“The closest they got to exercise was a lively game of Monopoly and half a round of charades.”
