Wayne Rooney isn’t having any talk of Manchester City being the best Premier League team ever

The former Manchester United man said City have to win some trophies before they can even be considered for the title

This Manchester City side is seriously good.

They have won 17 of their 18 Premier League games this season.

They are 14 points clear at the top of the table, scored 56 goals in the process and have beaten Chelsea, Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs already.

City also topped their Champions League group with 15 points.

It’s not just the victories but the way City play football that has attracted huge compliments this season.

Many pundits think they could go the season unbeaten and the idea that they are the best Premier League team ever has been banded around.

But Wayne Rooney is having none of it.

The former Man United star said Pep Guardiola’s goal machine has to win trophies before anyone could say they are the best ever.

Rooney told TalkSPORT that City had to a lot more to be considered the finest team to grace the Premier League.

“There have been so many great teams throughout the years in the Premier League. This City team needs to win trophies and needs to do it for a longer period to be in that bracket,” he said.

The 32-year-old knows all about dominating England’s first division having led the line for Untied for 13 years, winning the league five times.

When asked which side he thought was the best ever, Rooney predictably went with United from 2008.

The Everton player added that City would struggle to replicate Arsenal’s ‘Invincible’ season, going the whole season undefeated, because of the strength of the league now.

“I don’t think they can go unbeaten,” he noted. “They have done incredibly well with the run they have been on, but the Premier League is so difficult, especially now with this Christmas period coming up.

“I know they have a huge squad, a great squad of players. But there are so many top teams. I think in previous years it has been two teams and you went in knowing you would win most of the other games.

“But now there are five or six other teams that can all beat each other and I’m sure in one of those games Man City will get beaten.”

We see where Rooney is coming from but Man City are obliterating everything in their path right now.

They would have to be up there as the best ever if they win the title without defeat.

It’s down to you now, Pep.
