Graeme Souness hasn’t allowed himself a smile since that puppy orphanage caught fire.
The grizzled Sky Sports pundit is notoriously difficult to impress and one man who has felt the wrath of his barbed tongue for than most is Paul Pogba.
Man United’s charismatic Frenchman has been the subject of Souness’ grouchy criticism several times since he arrived in England.
The former Liverpool player’s latest volley of condemnation has irked plenty of United fans.
Sounness has said that Pogba lacks a “basic understanding” of playing in midfield.
The comment came on Irish television following United’s 2-1 win over CSKA Moscow in the Champions League.
“This isn’t me being an ex-Liverpool player caning a Man United player,” he said.
“I thought the same when he was a Juventus player.”
“He’s 24-years-old, if he’s not got it now when is he going to get it?
“He hasn’t taken a big game by the scruff of the neck and dominated it.
“He hasn’t got a basic understanding of his position, I can’t see that changing.”
Pogba’s form this season has been a main factor in Man United’s title challenge.
Jose Mourinho’s side were noticeably worse off without the former Juventus player while he was injured.
United’s chances of gaining ground on Man City were dealt a huge blow when Pogba was sent off for his foul on Hector Bellerin against Arsenal last weekend.
Sourness seemed to indicate Pogba’s positioning and defensive attributes weren’t up to scratch.
From our point of view he seems to understand how to play in midfield just fine…
