Who needs El Clasico when you’ve got El Classicoast?
South coast rivals Bournemouth and Southampton provided the Sunday lunchtime entertainment as the bloodthirsty masses waited for West Ham to be fed to the slaughter against Man City.
Far from the fiercest of derbies historically, the game at Dean Court was given an added edge by Jon Moss of all people.
After half an hour, the referee denied the hosts a clear penalty when Sofiane Boufal mistimed a tackle on Adam Smith.
The Morocco international went to ground in the box but was beaten to the ball by the Cherries’ right-back.
Some may say Smith was already on his way down before there was contact but it was a clear foul nonetheless.
Moss appeared to have a clear view of the incident and not only did he wave away Bournemouth’s appeals but he booked Smith for simulation and Jermain Defoe for his disbelieving complaints.
Eddie Howe’s annoyance would have been somewhat relieved from Ryan Fraser gave his side the lead four minutes before half-time but you would think he would have had a few choice words for Moss regarding the baffling decision.
Yet another incident that may have benefited from video assistance…
