Besiktas fans never forget.
Yesterday marked the 11th anniversary of the biggest Champions League win in history – but the Turkish side were on the wrong end of a drubbing.
Yossi Benayoun’s hat-trick inspired Liverpool to a whopping 8-0 win at Anfield back in 2007.
And, as you’d expect, the Reds’ various social media platforms were quick to soak up the nostalgia with various throwback posts.
But we’ve noticed Besiktas fans have been trolling them in response.
Supporters of the Turkish club have been barraging the numerous posts – including this one by the official Liverpool Instagram account – with the words ‘Goodbye Liverpool’:
Well, apparently the answer is quite simple.
The phrase is referring to a remark made by famous Turkish commentator Ercan Taner after Besiktas knocked Liverpool out of the Europa League in 2015.
Liverpool fans will remember that fateful night well, particularly the moment Dejan Lovren ballooned the deciding penalty into outer space to give Besiktas victory.
Think of ‘Goodbye Liverpool’ as the Turkish answer to Martin Tyler’s ‘Agueroooooo’ moment.
Basically, this is their subtle way of hitting back at the Reds.
