Surprise inclusions in Spain’s latest squad have got everybody talking

Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno has been recalled to the Spain squad to play Russia and Costa Rica

Thought Ashley Young getting a recall to the England squad was a bit of a shock?

Well Spain have gone and one-upped Gareth Southgate in their latest squad to play Russia and Costa Rica.

Alberto Moreno, so long a figure of fun at Liverpool, has earned a recall having previously played three times for Spain.

Moreno played 18 times for Liverpool last season but has already played 14 times this campaign after convincing Jurgen Klopp of his worth.

The 25-year-old is the first choice left-back at Anfield and his having his best spell in a Liverpool shirt.

He’ll now battle with Barcelona’s Jordi Alba for a place in Spain’s defence.

But Moreno isn’t the only former Liverpool flop (sorry Alberto) to be included in Spain’s squad.

Luis Alberto, Suso and Iago Aspas have been called up following their strong form at Lazio, AC Milan and Celta Vigo respectively.

Suso spent five years at Liverpool but only played 14 times in the Premier League.

Alberto joined from Sevilla in 2013 and played nine times in the Premier Leage before joining Lazio in 2016 for €4million.

As for Aspas, his most memorable moment at Liverpool was a corner.

What a difference a couple of years make.
