You wait a century for one Philipp Lahm then two come along at once.
Okay, so Joshua Kimmich may not yet be one the same level as the Bayern Munich and Germany legend but he’s as good a replacement as fans could have hoped for.
The 22-year-old has arguably been Bayern’s best player this season after stepping up in retired Lahm’s place as first-choice right-back.
His versatility means he can also play in midfield and he even has a keen eye for goal.
It’s no wonder Pep Guardiola is reported to be keen on a reunion with his former player.
SPORT are reporting that Man City are preparing to rival Barcelona in an attempt to sign Kimmich either this January or next summer.
Guardiola was in charge in Bavaria when Bayern bought Kimmich in 2015 and the former Barcelona gaffer once heralded him as ‘one of the best defenders in the world’ — a tag he has justified this campaign.
Just like Lahm, Kimmich is Bayern and Germany’s preferred right-back but has played in midfield for both due to his abilities in possession.
He would be a good fit for either Man City or Barcelona but the Bundesliga champions are unlikely to let him leave easily.
Bayern sporting director, Michael Reschke, said he didn’t think the club would entertain any offers below £45million.
Kimmich has been linked with City previously but now that he is playing regularly he is supposedly much happier at Bayern.
