Jose Mourinho. Psychologist first, football manager second.
He’s been up to his old tricks in the build up to Man United v Spurs, and his comments appear to have got to Mauricio Pochettino.
Exhibit A: Spurs’ side.
All the noise heading into the game was about the absence of Harry Kane, but Spurs supporters will notice another big selection talking point.
Spurs’ record signing, Davinson Sanchez, has been left out of Pochettino’s XI despite his impressive start to the season.
This is where Mourinho comes in.
While discussing United’s Europa League final win against Ajax, Mourinho let slip: “We let them go out to play, but blocking the right centre-back, De Ligt, and letting the ball go to the left, Sanchez, who had more difficulties.”
Mourinho listed Sanchez as Ajax’s weak link on that night, with United going on to win 2-0.
Coincidence or a cold and calculated move by Mou?
Sanchez has started every one of Spurs’ Champions League games this season and looked composed against Real Madrid.
He’s also started six Premier League games as part of a back three alongside Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.
But he’ll be watching on from the bench at Old Trafford. Peak Mourinho.
