We’ve been pretty excited about Ben Woodburn for quite some time now.
The Liverpool whizzkid – who’s the club’s youngest ever goalscorer – has a big future ahead of him, with many fans comparing him to fellow Wales international Gareth Bale.
As you’d expect, several elite clubs have been sniffing around the young forward, including La Liga giants Barcelona.
But it looks like the Reds starlet is going nowhere for the time being, having put pen to paper in a new five-year deal.
Woodburn – who turned 18 earlier this month – has said he’s determined to repay manager Jurgen Klopp’s faith in him, saying: “It’s an unbelievable feeling to sign a new contract with Liverpool.
“This is the club I want to stay at and be here as long as possible.
“I think there is loads of room for improvement.
But I think I’ve grown as a player and matured physically and technically, and grown in confidence.
“Now I just want to carry on and hopefully show the manager what I can do.”
Woodburn made his senior debut for the Reds against Sunderland last November and has since made 10 first-team appearances.
He recently made his first appearance for Wales (ending England’s vain attempts to lure him) and duly scored a 25-yard strike in a 1–0 win against Austria.
Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Klopp has described Woodburn as the “perfect balance of talent and attitude”.
He said: “Ben knows how committed we are to him and he and his family know this is the best environment for him to grow, learn more and become even better and better.”
