Great Odin’s Raven!
For many comedy fans around the world, the city of San Diego will forever be associated with Anchorman.
The cult flick starring Will Ferell, Steve Carrell, Paul Rudd and Christina Applegate is one of the most quoted films among millennials and plenty of ‘real adults’ as well.
Which is why San Diego’s new football club has caused quite the stir.
The newly formed franchise have named themselves 1904 FC.
The official reasoning is that S is 19th letter of the alphabet and D is the fourth so 1904 equals SD, the city’s initials.
Pretty dry if you ask us.
We much prefer the theory that the name is a reference to the following scene from Anchorman…
Will Ferrell’s character Ron Burgundy bluffs that the Germans founded the city in 1904 and named it San Diego, which in German means ‘a whale’s vagina’.
It’s a typically ludicrous (and brilliant) scene.
Whatever the case 1904 FC just became our new favourite team.
Or at least they will in 2018 when they become active.
