These days any player wearing black boots is considered a hipster.
But back in 1997 Nike released a black boot that was considered edgy due to its flashes of blue and wavy patterns.
The Air GX was the first boot out of Nike’s iconic Montebelluna factory and an instant cult classic.
While the Air GX might not have been as commercially popular as the Mercurial or Tiempo it’s an undeniably beautiful boot, way ahead of its time.
So, to celebrate the Montebelluna factory’s 20th birthday, the Air GX have been given an update.
The limited edition Hypervenom GX celebrate all that was good about the Air GX while bringing it into the 21st century.
So what’s new?
The boot is made of Alegria leather, ensuring a silky soft touch, while the Flyknit design and updated materials mean the Hypervenom is 35% lighter than the original.
Blue waves continue to adorn the boot, meaning the design is still reminiscent of the ’97 beauty.
A crest on the heel pays homage to the Montebelluna factory, accompanied by the Italian flag.
And the boot has kept faith with the original off-centre lacing. Spectacular.
Just take our money already.
Philippe Coutinho or Henrikh Mkhitaryan? Why not both?
